What is Kombucha?

So, What Is Kombucha?
In its simplest terms, kombucha is a drink produced by fermenting sweet tea with a SCOBY (a symbiotic culture of yeast and bacteria).
What's the Quick History?
Kombucha's history is believed to date back to ancient China, around 220 BC. During the Qin Dynasty, it was famously known as the "Tea of Immortality".
Is It a Torch?
No, not quite, but the magic of nature means some kombucha can glow under UV light. This is due to the presence of riboflavin (vitamin B2), which is naturally produced during fermentation.
Riboflavin fluoresces with a yellow-green colour when exposed to UV light, so if you shine a blacklight on certain kombuchas, they will actually glow.
Does NASA Like Kombucha?
We can't say for sure if they like it (not in the Instagram sense anyway, but you can follow us here!) but they were certainly interested.
In the 1990s, Russian scientists and NASA reportedly collaborated on studies to test the durability of kombucha cultures in extreme environments, like space, for potential use as bio-survival tools.
